This is the concluding chapter to director Hsu Teng-hung’s hit “new wuxia” trilogy that began with TEMPLE OF THE RED LOTUS (1965), followed by THE TWIN SWORDS (1965).

Having been sent on a quest by the Scarlet Maid (Ivy Ling Po), the heroic Yin Yang Swordsmen (Jimmy Wang Yu and Chin Ping) are traveling with the Phoenix Lute, a terrible weapon that fires hundreds of deadly needles, to see it destroyed when they’re intercepted by bandits from the Flying Tiger Clan. The son of the bandit leader is wounded by the needles during their fight and the lute is subsequently stolen. The Flying Tiger Clan leader (Ching Miao) learns that the only cure for the needles is the Seven Stars Stone, and leads an attack on the Shen Family household to steal it. Failing to find the stone, the bandits use the lute on Shen Shuwen (Yueh Hua) and allow him to escape in hopes that the hero will lead them to the stone. Shuwen comes under the care of child heroine Sun Xiaoling (Fung Bo-bo) and her loyal servant Daxin. They bring Shuwen to the Qin family residence where the Scarlet Maid has just arrived to investigate the disappearance of the lute. Shuwen is cured and the bandits are repelled in their attempt to steal the stone. Meanwhile, swordsman Du Ying (Lo Lieh) steals Sun Xiaoling’s Invincible Sword, the only weapon capable of destroying the lute. Xiaoling chases him down to recover it and discover his intent. Failing in the mission to save his son, the Flying Tiger Clan leader plots to use the lute to take over the territory and lead a revolt against the government. Before that happens, the Yin Yang Swordsmen lead the remaining heroes in an assault on the clan to recover the lute.
